Description
Parque Nacional de Monfragüe is one of Europe's last intact ecosystems. This Spanish gem impresses with its Mediterranean forests, gentle hills and huge cliffs, where the Tajo and Tiétar rivers create a picturesque landscape.
It's a nature lover's paradise - home to the largest colony of black vultures in Europe, as well as eagles, falcons and wildlife. You can admire the majestic birds of prey from the Salto del Gitano lookout point (300m).
A historical gem is the 9th-century Moorish castle with a tower offering panoramic views and a cave with paintings dating back 8,500 years - one of the most important cave art sites in Spain.
