Description

Plaza Mayor is one of the oldest and most iconic squares in Madrid, dating back to the 15th century. This rectangular square, measuring 129 meters by 94 meters, is surrounded by three-story buildings with porticoes and balconies.

In the center is an impressive equestrian statue of King Philip III from 1616. The square has witnessed many historical events, from bullfights and processions to theatrical performances and executions.

Today, it's a lively place with a philatelic and numismatic market on Sundays and a traditional Christmas market with more than 100 booths during the holiday season.
