Description
Alcázar de Toledo is an impressive fortress with a rich history dating back to Roman times. Towering over the city, this majestic structure combines different architectural styles: renaissance, plateresque and medieval.
Today it functions as the Army Museum, offering a fascinating journey through Spanish military history. It was here that Charles V received Hernán Cortés after the Aztec conquest.
During the Spanish Civil War, the fortress became a symbol of Spanish nationalism with its famous siege, when Colonel José Moscardó Ituarte defended the fort against overwhelming Republican forces.
