Description
Castillo de la Iruela is a small but strategically located Arab-Medieval castle from the 11th century, proudly towering over El Picacho rock in the Sierra de Cazorla National Park.
This impregnable fortress combines Islamic roots with Christian history—after its conquest in 1231, it was transformed into a powerful stronghold. Within its walls lies the Renaissance church of Santo Domingo and a unique Greek-style open-air theater, where cultural events are held. The panoramic views of the mountains and wildlife are breathtaking.
