Description

Southwick Priory is a fascinating monument of medieval architecture, founded by King Henry I in 1133. Originally located within the walls of Portchester Castle, it was moved to Southwick around 1145-1153.

Today you can admire the surviving parts of the walls with a well-preserved medieval portal, buttress and foundations. The site was visited by notable personalities, including Henry VIII and Margaret of Anjou.

Surrounded by picturesque woodland, the ruins offer a unique combination of history, spirituality and nature, ideal for lovers of medieval history and peaceful walks.
