South Fort - Vicksburg National Military Park

South Fort - Vicksburg National Military Park is a key element of the Confederate defensive line during the siege of Vicksburg in 1863. The river forts, despite their strategic location, failed to stop US Navy ships that successfully sailed past the fortifications in April 1863.

Today, the fort is part of a larger military park that includes more than 1,325 historical monuments and plaques, 20 miles of reconstructed trenches and a 16-mile hiking trail. It's a great place for Civil War history buffs, offering a fascinating glimpse into America's past.
