Description
Plavecký hrad is a medieval castle dating back to the 13th century, built by King Bela IV of Hungary as a border fortress. Despite its destruction by imperial troops in 1707, it still impresses with the remains of its tower, palace and massive bastions.
Situated on a steep hill at the foot of the Lesser Carpathians, it offers breathtaking views and is surrounded by a karst area with attractions such as the Plavecká jaskyňa cave.
The castle is reached by a blue hiking trail from Plavecké Podhradie, and the hike takes about an hour - ideal for history buffs and outdoor enthusiasts.
