Description
The Canal Grande is Venice's main waterway, winding through the city in an S-shape over a length of 3.8 km. It's not just a waterway, but a veritable gallery of architecture with more than 170 buildings representing styles from Venetian-Byzantine to Baroque.
A trip by vaporetto (water bus) or traditional gondola allows you to admire the impressive palaces, including Palazzo Corner della Ca' Grande and Palazzo Grassi. The Rialto Bridge, built in 1591, is one of the city's most recognizable symbols.
Every year, the Canal Grande comes alive during the historic Regata Storica, a tradition that dates back to the 13th century.
