San Damiano

San Damiano is a historic church and monastery near Assisi, a landmark site in the life of Saint Francis. It was here in 1205 that he heard a voice from the crucifix saying: 'Go and repair my house,' which sparked his spiritual transformation.

The site was also the first monastery of the Order of Saint Clare, where she lived with her followers from 1212 until her death in 1253.

The church is stunning in its architecture with a single nave and ogival vaults, as well as valuable 14th century frescoes depicting the Madonna and Child. Surrounded by olive groves, it offers a peaceful space for contemplation and learning about the Franciscan heritage.
