Description
Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral is a masterpiece of neo-Gothic architecture in the heart of Cork. Designed by William Burges, the temple impresses with more than 1,260 sculptures, marble mosaics from the Pyrenees and spectacular stained glass windows depicting biblical scenes.
Legend has it that the golden angel atop the central tower heralds the end of the world when it falls. The cathedral stands on the site where St. Fin Barre founded his monastic school in the 7th century.
Inside is one of the largest organs in Ireland with over 3,000 pipes, and the rich acoustics make concerts and organ recitals here a unique experience.
