Description
Rufus Castle is a medieval fortification dating back to the 15th century, also known as 'Castle of the Bow and Arrow'. Located on a rocky promontory, it offers breathtaking views of the coast and Church Ope Cove.
The castle is distinguished by its pentagonal tower with 7-foot thick walls equipped with numerous gun ports. Although you can't go inside (it's privately owned), you can admire its impressive structure from nearby vantage points.
The site has a rich history - it was captured by Robert Earl of Gloucester in 1142 during the civil war known as the 'Anarchy'.
