Description
The Church of the Three Holy Hierarchs in Timișoara is an impressive Orthodox cathedral, the second tallest church in Romania, reaching 90.5 meters in height.
Built in the Neo-Moldavian style between 1936 and 1940, it can accommodate as many as 5,000 worshippers. Its 11 towers tower over the city skyline, making it one of Timișoara's most recognizable symbols.
The interior is decorated with beautiful paintings completed in 1956. The cathedral is dedicated to three holy hierarchs: Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom, and its construction is linked to the incorporation of the Banat into Romania in 1919.
