Description
Santa Maria delle Grazie is a unique Dominican church and convent in the heart of Milan, combining Gothic and Renaissance styles. This place hides one of the world's greatest art treasures - Leonardo da Vinci's famous 'Last Supper' fresco, painted between 1495 and 1498.
The building, listed by UNESCO, impresses with its red brick facade decorated with the coat of arms of the Sforza family and an interior full of magnificent frescoes by famous artists, including Donato Montorfano and Gaudenzio Ferrari.
The church was built as a burial place for the Sforza family after the death of Duke Ludovico Sforza's wife, Beatrice d'Este, in 1497.
