Description
The ruins of the Monastery of the Discalced Carmelites in Zagorje are a fascinating monument from the 18th century that hides a remarkable history.
The Baroque complex, built of local sandstone, was once a fortified monastery with a church, a hospital for veterans and a cordegarden. It took part in the defense of the Bar Confederation against Russian forces in 1772, which led to the fire.
Its picturesque location on a hill above the Oslava River and preserved fragments of illusionist frescoes make this place a delight for lovers of history, architecture and spirituality.
