Description
Sucevița Monastery is one of the most beautiful painted monasteries in Romania, built in 1583 by the Movilă brothers.
The stunning building combines elements of Byzantine and Gothic architecture, and its walls are decorated with magnificently preserved frescoes, including the famous 'Ladder of St. John'.
The monastery resembles a medieval fortress with massive walls and defensive towers. Inside is a museum with a collection of historical and artistic items, and the nuns run an icon restoration workshop, where they restore old wooden icons and religious books using traditional methods.
