Description
St. Mark's Church in Zagreb is one of the oldest and most characteristic monuments of the Croatian capital. Its history dates back to the 13th century, and its unique combination of Romanesque and Gothic styles delights architecture lovers.
The most recognizable feature of the temple is the colorful roof with the coats of arms of Zagreb and the Kingdom of Croatia, Slavonia and Dalmatia arranged in red, white and blue tiles.
The church's south portal, considered one of the most important Gothic works in southeastern Europe, is decorated with 15 wooden figures of saints placed in 11 niches. It is a true gem for lovers of medieval sacred art.
