Description
The Church of San Miniato al Monte is a true gem of Romanesque architecture in Florence, built between the 11th and 13th centuries. Its facade decorated in white and green marble with a central mosaic depicting Christ delights any art lover.
The interior, with three naves, a raised chancel and a crypt, conceals a 13th-century marble floor and a Crucifix Chapel by Michelozzo.
Legend has it that the church is dedicated to Saint Miniato, the first martyr of Florence, who was said to have come to this hill carrying his own head after being beheaded.
The terrace in front of the church offers one of the most beautiful panoramas of the city.
