Description
The Cistercian Monastery in Sulejow is one of Poland's oldest and most important monuments, founded in 1176 by Prince Casimir II the Just.
Its unique Romanesque architecture, with the church of St. Thomas Becket of Canterbury and fortifications that successfully defended against Mongol invasions in the 13th century, delights history and architecture lovers.
After extensive restoration between 1990 and 2007, the abbey has regained its former splendor and now serves as both a place of worship and a museum facility where visitors can enjoy a wealth of medieval art and culture.
