Description
Borgund stavkirke is a unique medieval stave church dating back to the 12th century, and is one of the best preserved of its kind in Norway.
Its distinctive wooden structure with dark, tar-protected surfaces and intriguing carvings combining Christian elements with motifs of Norse mythology delight lovers of history and architecture.
Next to the church is a freestanding bell tower - the only one of its kind preserved in Norway. The visitor center offers interactive exhibitions and films to introduce the history of this fascinating monument.
