Description
The Basilica of St. Stephen in Rome is one of the oldest and best-preserved Christian churches in the Eternal City, built between 468 and 483 AD.
It is the first temple in Rome built on a circular plan, with an impressive system of three concentric rings separated by columns.
The interior is decorated with the famous Martyrology - 16th century paintings depicting the torture of early Christians. These unique frescoes by Pomarancio, Tempesta and Bril are a remarkable testimony to the history of the faith.
The basilica's architecture, which combines the traditions of pagan Rome with Christianity, makes it a fascinating site for lovers of history and sacred art.
