Description
Racton Monument is a fascinating ruin of an 18th-century building built on a hilltop in West Sussex. This four-story structure, designed by Theodosius Keene, offers extraordinary panoramic views of Chichester Harbour and the Isle of Wight.
Built between 1766 and 1775 by the 2nd Earl of Halifax, the monument still hides the mystery of its purpose - perhaps it was a summer residence, or perhaps an observation tower for merchant ships.
The site attracts lovers of history, architecture and paranormal phenomena - there are legends of ghosts and unexplained phenomena among these picturesque ruins.
