As soon as we arrived in England they decided the door was locking, how convenient 🙄
I really didn’t want to write this review. I gave the management multiple chances to put things right, but now they are completely ignoring us – and I feel compelled to warn others.
Let me start with the positives: the property is undeniably beautiful. The grounds and the apartment itself were stunning, and we were genuinely excited to stay there. Unfortunately, the problems began on our very first evening.
We discovered that the patio door would not lock. As we were unfamiliar with the area and had important personal documents with us (passports, laptops, etc.), we were extremely uncomfortable leaving it unsecured. We contacted the emergency number and, after some convincing about the safety risk, they reluctantly agreed to send someone out.
A staff member arrived and confirmed the door would close, but not lock securely – meaning anyone could gain access from the outside. She contacted her manager, who promised someone would fix it first thing in the morning.
The next day, a man showed up, confirmed the issue, and said he would return with tools. We informed him we’d be out, but he reassured us it would be fixed using the key he had.
While we were out, I called the vineyard to check on the repair. I was told, “All fixed!” which we were so relieved to hear. However, when we returned around 11pm, the door was still broken and unlocked. We were gutted – our second night and still not secure. We had to sleep again with all our valuables in the bedroom, feeling unsafe and anxious.
Management later agreed to issue a 30% refund due to the unresolved security issue. At checkout, we even showed a staff member video evidence of the faulty door. He agreed it wasn’t locking properly and gave us a bottle of port by way of apology. Though we were still upset, we didn’t want to let it spoil our last holiday before our wedding.
But once back in the UK, we messaged to confirm the refund and were shocked when they completely backtracked, claiming there was “nothing wrong with the door.” This, despite two members of staff confirming otherwise and video proof. To add insult to injury, they are now ignoring all communication and even accused us of fabricating the issue because we “didn’t have a good time.”
This has been deeply upsetting. We feel scammed, such a beautiful place is run by people who refuse to take responsibility or act with basic integrity. We sincerely hope to reach the actual owner of the property because this behaviour is shocking and completely unacceptable.
Massive red flags here. Please don’t ignore them like we did.
Frank Cacciatore2 months agoNot the most engaging host we've encountered. Would've loved to hear about the wines in detail and the history of the winery. Did a tasting of three wines for 15€. The white was so-so, the rose better, the red very good. Interesting venue with many "interesting" sculptures.
