Description
Castillo del Morro is an impressive 16th century fortress that is one of the oldest European fortifications in the Americas. This six-level structure with thick walls of local sandstone offers a fascinating journey through Puerto Rico's military history.
The bastions and watchtowers offer breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and San Juan. The fortress has witnessed numerous historical events, including attacks by Sir Francis Drake in 1595 and the Dutch in 1625.
The site is also home to the oldest lighthouse on the island, built in 1846.
