Description
Poulnabrone is one of Ireland's oldest megalithic monuments, more than 5,800 years old. This impressive dolmen, whose name means 'hole of sorrows,' consists of three massive portal stones supporting a massive boulder weighing up to 1.5 tons.
It is not only a monument, but also a burial site - excavations have revealed the remains of 33 people, including adults and children. Standing amidst the rugged landscape of the Burren, the dolmen makes for an incredible setting, perfect for photography and history buffs.
Admission is free, and a guide is often present to tell the fascinating story of this Neolithic tomb.
