Description
Jardins da Quinta das Lágrimas are historic gardens in Coimbra where history is intertwined with legend. This place is famous for the romantic tale of King Pedro I and Inês de Castro, traces of which can be found in the Love Canal with its distinctive red algae, which according to legend is the blood of the king's murdered sweetheart.
Walking through the 18-acre grounds, you'll discover the Romantic Garden with exotic plants more than 200 years old and Portugal's first Medieval Garden with 50 species of plants from before the Age of Discovery.
It's the perfect place for a peaceful stroll amidst lush landscaping and fountains, where every corner tells a fascinating story of love and tragedy.
