Description
The Batalha Monastery is a UNESCO-listed masterpiece of Gothic and Manueline architecture. Built to commemorate Portugal's victory at the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385, it impresses with its intricate stone carvings and soaring vaults.
The Royal Cloister captivates with its elegant lines and rich ornamentation, while the Founder's Chapel conceals the tombs of King John I and Queen Philippa of Lancaster. Particularly intriguing are the Unfinished Chapels (Capelas Imperfeitas), which, despite their lack of completion, showcase the extraordinary craftsmanship of the builders.
