Description
The Jan Hus Monument is a monumental sculpture located in Prague's Old Town Square. This impressive monument, unveiled in 1915, commemorates the 500th anniversary of the martyrdom of the Czech religious reformer.
Made of stone and bronze, the monument is one of the most important works of Czech monumental sculpture in the Art Nouveau and Symbolist style. The central figure is Jan Hus looking toward the Church of the Virgin Mary in front of the Tyne River, and he is accompanied by figures of Hussite warriors and Protestants forced into exile.
The monument features inspiring inscriptions, including Hus' famous words: 'Love one another, truth wish for everyone'.
