Description
The ruins of the Teutonic Castle in Grudziadz are a fascinating monument of medieval Gothic architecture. Erected in the 13th century by the Teutonic Order, it served as a strategic fortress controlling the Vistula River crossing.
Particularly noteworthy is the circular Klimek tower, which served as a defense post and prison. The castle was surrounded by double walls with 10 towers and four fortified gates.
The site witnessed many historical events, including the Swedish occupation in 1655 and served as a refuge for King Frederick William III after the Battle of Jena.
