Description
The Monument to the Fallen during the Silesian Uprisings and World War II is a unique memorial in the heart of Katowice.
Erected in 1951 on the site of an earlier monument destroyed by the Nazis, it commemorates the heroes who fought for the freedom of Silesia and the victims of World War II.
The monument bears the inscription 'Honoring the fallen heroes of 1919, 1920, 1921, 1939, 1945', paying tribute to those who fought during different periods of the conflict.
Located in the former market square of Bogucice, the square has a rich history - its name changed with successive regimes (Marktplatz, Stephan Square, Stephansplatz).
