Description
The Aviator's Monument is a unique monument commemorating the heroes of Polish aviation - Franciszek Żwirka and Stanisław Wigura.
This 6-meter bronze statue, holding a propeller in its left hand, was designed by Edward Wittig in 1923. Destroyed by the Germans in 1944, it was rebuilt in 1967 according to the original designs.
Interestingly, the monument's pedestal featured symbols of the Polish resistance movement, including the famous 'Anchor' painted in 1942. Today, the pedestal features a brass replica of this historical graffiti.
