Description
Palladian Bridge is an exceptional architectural monument dating back to 1738, and is a fine example of the classical style. This elegant bridge with five arches and an Ionic colonnade is the centerpiece of Stowe's picturesque gardens.
The bridge's design, attributed to James Gibbs, is stunning in its details - ornate keystones and carved column heads. Originally thrown over a stream, it was harmoniously integrated into the developing landscape after Octagon Lake was enlarged in 1752.
It is an ideal destination for lovers of history, architecture and picturesque views.
