Description
Palace Ludwiglust is a magnificent example of the combination of Late Baroque and Neoclassical styles. Originally built as a hunting lodge, it was transformed into a luxurious residence and capital of the Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin between 1765 and 1837.
The palace's interiors are resplendent with rich decorations, many of which were made using the innovative 'Ludwigslust board' technique with papier-mâché instead of expensive materials. The Golden Hall with its Corinthian columns and huge mirrors is a real gem.
The extensive park surrounding the palace offers picturesque water cascades, beautifully designed gardens and charming places to stroll.
