Description
The Marble Palace in Potsdam is a unique architectural monument dating from 1787-1792, being the first and last early classical royal residence in the Kingdom of Prussia.
Built at the behest of King Friedrich Wilhelm II, the palace impresses with its red brick and marble decoration. Its location on Holy Lake and the surrounding New Garden create a picturesque setting.
An interesting feature is the Masonic symbolism evident in the architecture - three acacia robins planted before construction symbolized the king's Masonic lodge. From the observation deck on the roof you can enjoy a beautiful panorama of the area. The site has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990.
