Description
Inwood Hill Park is a 196-acre park on the northern tip of Manhattan, offering a unique blend of nature and history.
It is Manhattan's last natural forest and salt marsh, home to more than 150 species of birds. The park delights with dramatic caves, valleys and ridges left by glaciers.
Here you can discover traces of Native American settlements and pre-revolutionary European colonies, including the legendary Shorakkopoch Rock, where tradition says the island of Manhattan was purchased from the Indians.
The park offers scenic hiking trails, canoeing, picnicking and bird watching, as well as modern amenities like sports fields and playgrounds.
