Opactwo Matki Bożej w Montserrat

The Abbey of Our Lady of Montserrat is a gem of sacred architecture hidden among the beautiful serrated mountains of Catalonia.

Founded in the 11th century, it is famous for the miraculous discovery of the statue of the Black Madonna, the patron saint of Catalonia, found by seven shepherds in 880. The complex includes a 16th century basilica and Gothic cloisters, resplendent with mosaics and alabaster sculptures.

The site resounds with the sounds of Europe's oldest boys' choir, L'Escolania, in existence since the 14th century. The abbey combines spirituality with legends, including the story of the Holy Grail, creating a magical atmosphere at the intersection of history, culture and nature.
