Description

St. Gall's Abbey is a unique monument with over 1200 years of history, listed by UNESCO. This architectural gem combines Carolingian, Baroque and Rococo styles, delighting any lover of history and architecture.

The abbey's greatest treasure is one of the oldest and richest libraries in the world, holding more than 400 manuscripts dating from the 8th to 11th centuries, including the oldest known architectural plan drawn on parchment.

Founded in the 8th century by the Irish monk Gallus, the abbey was an important cultural center in Europe for centuries, witnessing tumultuous historical events until its secularization in 1805.
