Description
Ibri castle is a historic jewel of Oman, built some 500 years ago by the Nabhan tribe and completed by a sheikh of the Yaqoubi tribe. This historic complex impresses with its traditional Islamic architecture and rich cultural heritage.
The castle has four gates called 'Sabah,' which served various purposes, including defense and as living areas for the Wali Ibri and the village judge. Within its walls is one of the oldest mosques still in use in the country, characterized by a unique roof of pressed gravel.
On the castle grounds you'll also discover two wells and a falaj (ancient irrigation system), which add to the historical significance of the site. The intriguing carvings and impressive arches reflect the craftsmanship of an earlier era.
