Description
Munich's Marienplatz has been the beating heart of the Bavarian capital since 1158, where history meets the pulse of city life. It is dominated by the neo-Gothic Neues Rathaus with its 85-meter tower, whose facade is decorated with over 300 stone figures.
Every day at 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. (and also at 5:00 p.m. in summer), the Glockenspiel comes to life – 43 bells and 32 figures reenact a medieval tournament. In the center of the square stands the Mariensäule from 1638, commemorating the survival of the Thirty Years' War, and the Fischbrunnen serves as a favorite meeting place.
