Description
Schweriner Schloss, Burggarten is a fairytale castle located on an island in Lake Schwerin, dubbed the 'Neuschwanstein of the North'. This gem of romantic historicism, built between 1845 and 1857, combines elements of the French and Dutch Renaissance.
The gardens, designed by Peter Joseph Lenné and Theodor Klett, offer picturesque views and peaceful walking paths. Part of the castle functions as a museum with a collection of 17th-century Dutch and Flemish paintings.
In 2023, the site was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the 'Cultural Landscape of Romantic Historicism'.
