Description
Old Winchester Hill is a prehistoric hill with an impressive Iron Age fort and Bronze Age barrows. The site is part of the South Downs National Park and is a nature reserve with exceptional biodiversity.
It's a paradise for history buffs and nature lovers - rare species of butterflies, including Adonis blue and chalkhill blue, and numerous species of birds can be seen here. From the top of the hill there are spectacular views of the surrounding hills, and on clear days you can even see Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight.
It is worth knowing that the hill was used during World War II for artillery testing, which adds additional historical context to the site.
