Description
The Heidelberg Botanical Garden is a true gem for nature and history lovers. Founded in 1593, it is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world and the third oldest in Germany.
An impressive collection of more than 12,000 plant species gathered in 23 different collections awaits visitors. Particularly noteworthy are the tropical orchids, bromeliads and succulents displayed in the modern 4,000 sq. m. greenhouses.
The garden also has an important scientific function - it has a herbarium with more than 250,000 specimens representing more than 50,000 taxa, making it one of the largest collections of its kind in Germany.
