Description
New Garden is a picturesque park of 102.5 hectares located in the northern part of Potsdam, bordering the Heiliger See and Jungfernsee lakes.
Founded in 1787 by Johann August Eyserbeck at the behest of Friedrich Wilhelm II, it was intended to rival the Baroque beauty of nearby Sanssouci Park.
The park impresses with architectural gems such as the Marble Palace, the Orangery and the Gothic Library. Walking among the picturesque paths, fountains and sculptures, you can feel the atmosphere of 18th-century Prussia. An additional attraction is the grazing cows, which were part of the original design to recreate rural life.
