Description

Jardim Botânico da Universidade de Coimbra is one of the oldest and most renowned botanical gardens in Europe, founded in 1772 by the Marquis de Pombal.

On 13 hectares you'll find more than 1,500 species of plants from different climatic zones, including tropical and subtropical specimens in greenhouses. The garden is divided into a formal Jardim Clássico with terraces and avenues, and a Mata (arboretum) with a variety of trees.

The site, listed by UNESCO in 2013, delights with a bamboo forest, a collection of 51 species of eucalyptus and an impressive specimen of Ficus macrophylla. It is the perfect place for nature lovers and those seeking a moment of peace and quiet alike.
