Description
Greenham & Crookham Common Nature Reserve is a fascinating 693-acre nature reserve that combines natural beauty with a rich history.
This unique area of heathland and acid grassland was once an RAF base and later the site of anti-nuclear protests in the 1980s. Today, it's a nature lover's paradise - home to rare ground nesting birds like woodlarks and skylarks, and more than 30 species of butterflies.
In summer, you can admire hundreds of blooming orchids, and, walking along marked trails, meet free-grazing cattle and Exmoor ponies. For history enthusiasts, the remains of a former military base remain.
