Description
National Trust South Foreland Lighthouse is a Victorian lighthouse with a remarkable history. Built between 1841 and 1843, it was the world's first lighthouse to use electric light!
This place played a key role in the development of radio communication - the first international radio transmission from France was received here in 1899. During World War II, the lighthouse was part of England's defense system.
The observation deck offers a breathtaking view of the English Channel and the French coast. After the tour, you can relax in a charming tea room decorated in 1950s style in the former lighthouse keeper's house.
