Description
National Trust - Hardy's Cottage is a charming thatched cottage where the famous English writer Thomas Hardy was born and created. It was here that his early works, including 'Under the Greenwood Tree' and 'Far from the Madding Crowd,' were written.
The cottage has retained its original 19th century character - traditional walls of clay, sand and straw, open hearths and stone floors transport you back to the writer's youth.
The picturesque garden surrounding the cottage and nearby Thorncombe Wood were the inspiration for Hardy's work and today offer charming walking paths for lovers of literature and nature.
