Description
National Trust - Cley Hill is a fascinating 244-meter-high hill that hides a remarkable history.
Surrounded by earthen ramparts from the Iron Age, it conceals barrows from the Bronze Age. The site is a paradise for nature lovers - as an Area of Special Scientific Interest, it delights with more than 100 species of plants, including rare orchids.
According to local legend, the hill was created when the devil wanted to cover the town of Devizes, but, discouraged by an old man, abandoned the land by the roadside. The short but steep climb rewards with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
