National Trust - Brean Down Fort

National Trust - Brean Down Fort is a fascinating Victorian fortification built between 1864 and 1871 as part of Palmerston's Forts, protecting the Bristol Channel from French invasion.

It is a site with a rich archaeological history, dating back to the Bronze Age, with the remains of an Iron Age fort and a Roman temple. During World War II, the fort was rearmed and used for testing experimental weapons.

In addition to its military history, Brean Down impresses with its natural features - 97-meter-high limestone cliffs rich in fossils and diverse flora and fauna, including rare plants and butterflies.
