Description
Ytre Hvaler National Park is Norway's first marine national park, covering 354 km² of fascinating terrain, of which as much as 340 km² is underwater.
It is a nature lover's paradise, offering seaweed forests, seagrass meadows and Europe's largest coral reef in sheltered waters. The park is home to more than 300 endangered species, and the waters between Heia and Torbjørnskjær are an important breeding area for common seals.
The park's history dates back to the Bronze Age, and more than 50 shipwrecks, including the 1717 Danish frigate HDMS Lossen, add to the site's mysterious charm.
