Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide is a unique national park in the western part of the Mecklenburg Lake District. This picturesque area of 365 square kilometers impresses with its diversity of landscapes - 60% of the land is covered by forests, while 14% is made up of rivers and almost 60 lakes.
The park is a paradise for nature lovers and bird watchers. White-tailed eagles, ospreys and bitterns can be seen here. Bison breeding is carried out in the Damerower Werder area.
The site is also famous for its minimal light pollution, making it an ideal spot for observing the starry sky. A variety of hiking trails allow visitors to explore the beauty of post-glacial landscapes with dunes and peat bogs.
